SMM, Sept. 10-Canadian company Tahoe Resources said on Friday that it had resumed operations at the La Arena gold mine in Peru after protesters agreed to formal negotiations with the company, ending an eight-day shutdown.
Last night, protesters left near Tahoe, where the two sides reached a formal agreement and resumed production operations after the night shift.
The negotiations, chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, will begin today, Tahoe said.
Vancouver-based Tahoe also operates in Guatemala and Canada. The company said continuous monitoring showed that the mine blasting met legal and environmental quality standards.
