China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology accuses 30 car companies of not producing enough New Energy vehicles

SMM, Sept. 5: (ministry of industry), China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has released a list of 30 automakers that have failed to meet new energy vehicle production requirements for at least a year. Among the companies on the list are brilliance (Brilliance Auto), Hafei (Hafei Motor), GAC Honda (Guangqi Honda), and the joint venture between Japanese Honda (Honda Motor) and Guangzhou Automotive (Guangzhou Auto). Changan Automobile Enterprise (Changan PSA), co-owned by French PSA Group (PSA Groupe) and Changan Automobile (Changan Auto) And another joint venture between Changan (Changan Suzuki) and Japan's Suzuki (Suzuki Motor).

China is already the world's largest market for electric vehicles. China has also spent billions of dollars on subsidies to help the green car industry develop. Since April, the government has imposed a new rule that requires new energy vehicles to produce more than 10% of conventional vehicles by 2019 and more than 12% by 2020-or face sanctions.

On September 3, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also published a list of enterprises (the first batch) that met the requirements for the comprehensive utilization of waste power batteries for new energy vehicles.

In China, new energy vehicles include electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles and fuel cell vehicles. Under the new rules, the government may launch a new round of inspections of companies on the list to see if they are qualified to make new energy vehicles.

In 2017, China produced 794000 new energy vehicles and sold 777000, up 54 per cent and 53 per cent respectively over the previous year.

Last week, Ministry of Finance officials told a public forum on China's new energy vehicle industry that government support had led to the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry. Treasury officials also detailed several key challenges in the development of electric vehicles, including structural oversupply, a large number of low-quality vehicles and the lack of competitiveness of electric vehicle manufacturers that rely on government subsidies.
