SMM8, March 30-the largest known lithium deposit in the United States is in northern Nevada, and a mining company says it has big plans. This high grade, high concentration of minerals is found in McDermitt Caldera, which extends from Humboldt County to Oregon.

Tim Crowley, vice president of government affairs and community relations at Lithium Nevada, said: "We have found an area that can be exploited for 46 years." "it's almost unheard of."

Demand for lithium is on the rise as consumers are using more devices that require energy storage.

"demand for lithium products supporting battery production is expected to quadruple by 2025," Zawadzki said.

"you'll see that it's going to be an electric car in our market," Crowley said. " "you can see it in your home battery and use it to store energy at home. Consumers are making full use of lithium batteries. The market will continue to grow and grow. "

The mine will use sulfuric acid to extract lithium from clay. On-site sulfuric acid and lithium processing plants are expected to be built in the next two years.

"its advantage is that it will be controlled, safe, clean and efficient," Crowley said. "

Six years of environmental work has been completed at the Nevada lithium mine, which extends to ecologically sensitive areas and will not be exploited.

"We will spare no effort to study the impact of this project on water, wildlife and surrounding areas, and we find that the impact is very small," Crowley said. "

The mine is about 1.5 miles long, about 0.5 miles wide and about 350 feet deep. Compared with many other open-pit mines, this is not very big.

Nevada's only operational lithium mine is in Silver Peak, Esmerelda County. It extracts minerals from groundwater and pumps them into a storage pool on the surface, where it evaporates. Since the lithium of the Thacker Pass project is in clay, they will use strip mining to collect ore.

Over its 46-year life cycle, the mine is expected to generate $6.7 billion in state and federal taxes.
