SMM8, March 23: a former Ghanaian government official publicly opposes a $2 billion bauxite deal negotiated between the Ghanaian government and the people's Republic of China on the grounds that the deal is too one-sided.

In July, the Ghanaian parliament signed a major project support agreement with Sinohydro, which stipulates that China needs to help Ghana build much-needed infrastructure. In exchange, Ghana granted the Chinese government the right to exploit bauxite in the Ateva Forest Reserve.

According to Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana's finance minister, the deal "will help Ghana build $2 billion worth of infrastructure, including roads, bridges, intersections, hospitals, housing and rural electrification." In exchange for refined bauxite in Ghana. However, Betsy also said that the deal may ultimately benefit from the Ghanaians.

Betsy also said that in 2010, the Department of Energy issued a comprehensive document on how to combine the integrated aluminum industry with other related industries in China to create more than 2.8 million jobs. This document will be a good reference blueprint.
