SMM8 1: Escondida Copper Mine labor agreement negotiations are not going well, the original agreement deadline has passed, the two sides have not reached an agreement, the results of the negotiations are pending. The union said that if BHP Billiton finally did not agree to the union's request, the copper union workers plan to stop work for at least 30 days. Patricio Tapia, the union's first president, said in an interview Tuesday in Antofagasta that if BHP Billiton's talks with the union eventually broke down completely, the strike would never be short-term. Trade unions do not want to go on strike at the moment, but still want to solve the problem mainly through peace talks.
