SMM3, March 7: Cajamarquilla zinc smelter officials told SMM that the strike officially began on the morning of March 6 and that less than 20 per cent of the smelter's workforce is currently affected. Based on the conditions initially offered by the workers, the top of the company is trying to reach an agreement with the union. Refined zinc production will not be affected by the strike because the company has put in place a corresponding response before the strike. Peru's Labor Ministry also issued a statement saying the strike was unjustified.
