Foreign media: Rio agrees to sell French aluminium smelter to Liberty

SMM1: Rio Tinto Group (Rio Tinto Group) has agreed to sell its Dunkerque aluminium smelter in northern France to Liberty House Group, a London-based metals trader, according to people familiar with the matter. The smelter has an annual capacity of 270000 metric tons, according to Rio Tinto's official website.

Liberty House Group has expanded in the UK, Australia and the US over the past four years. Sanjeev Gupta, the executive chairman, said in an interview last month that the company was preparing an initial public offering for a subsidiary, very soon, and was trying to buy two steel mills and an auto parts factory in India.
