Pre-holiday stockpiling accelerates declines in primary aluminium stocks

Stocks dropped 74,000 mt, or 4.7% from a week ago to stand at 1.513 million mt Apr 25

SHANGHAI, Apr 25 (SMM) – Primary aluminium stocks in China saw a larger decline this week, as downstream consumers stockpiled for the upcoming Labour Day holiday.

SMM data showed that social inventories of primary aluminium across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, dropped 74,000 mt, or 4.7% from a week ago to stand at 1.513 million mt Thursday April 25.

The stocks declined 49,000 mt, or 3% in the week ended April 18.

Details:

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 547,000 mt

Shanghai – 290,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 331,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 124,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 114,000 mt

Tianjin – 57,000 mt

Linyi, Shandong – 23,000 mt

Chongqing –27,000 mt
