MEP ordered steelmakers that failed to meet environmental quotas last winter to introduce new rounds of cutbacks

SHANGHAI, Mar 12 (SMM) – Inspection teams sent by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) slammed the slack enforcement of production curbs, during the heating season and smog alerts, in Tangshan of Hebei province after a recent visit to local steel mills and ports, SMM learned on Tuesday March 12.

The MEP also ordered steelmakers that failed to meet environmental quotas last winter to undertake new rounds of cutbacks.

The number of steel mills in Tangshan exempt from winter cuts increased to 20 last year, from 10 in 2017.
