Report: Yanshan Iron & Steel to construct lithium carbonate, hydroxide project in Tangshan

With a capacity of 40,000 mt/year, the project will commission half of its capacity after construction of phase one

SHANGHAI, Mar 5 (SMM) – Tangshan Yanshan Iron & Steel, under Hebei Iron & Steel Group, signed an agreement with Nanbao development zone in Caofeidian, Tangshan city on Thursday February 28, to construct a lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide project, according to a local news release.

With an overall capacity of 40,000 mt/year, the project will commission half of the capacity after construction of phase one. SMM learned that project investments stands at 2 billion yuan.

As one of the raw materials of lithium-ion batteries, lithium carbonate will be produced from spodumene imported from Australia and Chile through Caifeidian port.
