Maintenance at Chinalco Guangxi to affect alumina output

This will affect total production of alumina by 20,000 mt

SHANGHAI, Dec 26 (SMM) – China's largest state aluminium producer Chinalco put one roasting furnace at the Guangxi branch into maintenance on Tuesday December 25.

Maintenance work will last 14 days, and affect total production of alumina by 20,000 mt.

The Guangxi branch has annual alumina capacity of 2.5 million mt. It operated at full capacity before the maintenance, SMM learned.

Separately, another alumina producer Tiandong Jinxin Chemical in Guangxi, conducted one-week maintenance work to its roasting furnaces on December 23. This is expected to affect alumina production by 16,000 mt.

Capral Aluminum is replacing a 40-year-old gas furnace at its Queensland site with an electric system, including an electric convection furnace, induction heating and waste heat recovery. [SMM Express] SHFE data showed that on April 15, the total registered cast aluminum alloy warrants stood at 30,496 mt, an increase of 62 mt from the previous trading day. By region, Shanghai registered 1,822 mt (down 90 mt), Guangdong 11,786 mt (down 60 mt), Jiangsu 3,909 mt (down 29 mt), Zhejiang 8,170 mt (up 151 mt), Chongqing 3,603 mt (unchanged), and Sichuan 1,206 mt (unchanged) from the previous trading day.
