Construction will slow in mid-Jan, and resume at the beginning of Mar after CNY

SHANGHAI, Dec 25 (SMM) – A latest SMM survey found that steel demand from downstream construction sites remained robust in south, east, and south-west China. Construction in the north, such as in the provinces of Heilongjiang and Jilin, mostly suspended on the cold weather. Environmental implications affected construction works in central China.

Construction sites will start to slow their activities in the middle of January, and resume at the start of March after the Chinese New Year holiday, SMM learned. Poor weather in some northern areas is likely to extend suspension there to the end of March.

In Xuzhou of the eastern province of Jiangsu, environmental issues resulted in the suspension of all construction sites from December 10-31.
