Planned capacity stood at 300,000 mt of copper, 300,000 mt of zinc, and 100,000 mt of lead per year

SHANGHAI, Dec 21 (SMM) – The biggest domestic investment project by China Minmetals, a copper-lead-zinc project in Shuikoushan town in Hunan province, will commence production on Wednesday December 26, according to a news release on mining and metallurgy site kuangyeyuan.com.

China Minmetals invested some 10 billion yuan in the project.

The project's planned capacity stood at 300,000 mt of copper, 300,000 mt of zinc, and 100,000 mt of lead per year. These included some lead and zinc smelting capacity from Hunan’s Zhuzhou Smelter Group, who started to relocate from urban areas to the Shuikoushan industrial base a year ago.

The relocation will reduce outdated zinc smelting capacity by 550,000 mt, and lead smelting capacity by 100,000 mt in Hunan, SMM learned.
