SHANGHAI, Dec 17 (SMM) – No copper scrap imports received the green light in the first batch of 2019 approvals for restricted solid scrap imports, according to the release by the solid waste management centre of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) on Friday December 14.
There were also no imports approved in the final, or 26th, batch of approvals for 2018 on December 13, indicating that China had banned the import of Category Seven copper.
Total approved copper scrap imports for 2018 stood at 999,700 mt, down some 66.7% from volumes approved last year. A total of 3.01 million mt of copper scrap imports received approval in 11 batches in 2017.
