SHANGHAI, Oct 30 (SMM) – A bauxite mine project in Guinea that Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco) invested in, began construction on Sunday October 28. Located in the coastal town of Boffa, the project has planned capacity of 12 million mt, announced Chalco on its website.
Upon full operation, Chalco will be able to self-provide 75% of bauxite as raw materials in production.
The Boffa mine has an estimated 1.75 billion mt of bauxite reserves, allowing sustainable exploitation for over 60 years, Chalco said.
Chalco declared that it would invest up to $163.8 million in the project, which has a total cost of $706 million, when it signed an agreement with the Guinea government in June.
