Tangshan mills capacity to cut by 33.8% for winter

Steel mills in Tangshan will face cutbacks of around 19.74 million mt in blast furnace capacity in 2018/2019 winter

SHANGHAI, Oct 19 (SMM) – Steel mills in Tangshan of Hebei province will face cutbacks of around 19.74 million mt in blast furnace capacity in the 2018/2019 winter, according to the latest release by the local government. This will account some 33.8% of overall capacity. 

Mills in Category B faced cutbacks between 24.35%-46.4%, averaging 40%, SMM learned. Cutbacks for mills in Categories C and D mills stood at an average of 50% and 60%, respectively. 

Category A mills will be exempt from production restrictions in the upcoming winter.
