SHANGHAI, Sep 18 (SMM) – China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Tuesday September 18 issued a statement about the US' decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports.
An MOC spokesperson said: "We feel deeply regretful over the decision that the US, disregarding international and domestic trending opposition, announced imposing additional tariffs on $200 billion Chinese goods from September 24, and threatened to further escalate tariff measures."
China "will be forced to take countermeasures to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests as well as the global free trade order. The US additional tariffs have brought new uncertainties for bilateral negotiations. We hope that the US recognises the potentially harmful consequences of such an action and rectify the situation", the spokesperson said.
