Shrinking supplies, improved consumption lower aluminium inventories

Stocks decreased by some 31,000 mt from Thursday Sep 13 to 1.645 million mt as of Monday Sep 17

SHANGHAI, Sep 17 (SMM) – Primary aluminium inventories across eight consumption areas, including SHFE warrants, decreased by some 31,000 mt from Thursday September 13 to stand at 1.645 million mt as of Monday September 17, SMM data showed.

Shrinking supplies and improved consumption accounted for the decline in aluminium stocks over the weekend, SMM believes.

Details:

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 705,000 mt

Shanghai – 372,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 210,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 155,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 94,000 mt

Tianjin – 59,000 mt

Linyi, Shandong – 25,000 mt

Chongqing – 25,000 mt

[Ford's July U.S. sales drop over 10% as aluminum shortage constrains F-Series truck output]

Ford sold 169,951 vehicles in the U.S. in July, down more than 10% year-on-year, with the decline driven by tight F-Series pickup availability tied to an aluminium supply disruption, the discontinuation of the Escape crossover, and a planned pullback in low-margin rental fleet sales; the shortage traces back to fires that halted production at supplier Novelis Inc.'s hot mill last autumn, though the facility resumed operations in June, F-Series inventory remained thin at around 45 days' supply by end of July, and F-Series sales themselves fell 6.5% even as Ford said underlying retail demand for trucks and SUVs stayed resilient, with rental fleet deliveries cut 96% to prioritize retail allocation.
