Some 1,352 mt of copper scrap received the green light in the 18th batch of approvals for restricted solid scrap imports.

SHANGHAI, Aug 21 (SMM) – Some 1,352 mt of copper scrap, across two companies, received the green light in the 18th and latest batch of approvals for restricted solid scrap imports, according to the release on Monday by the solid waste management centre of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).

The two companies are located in Tianjin Ziya Industrial Park.

The 18th batch of approvals brought the total approved copper scrap imports this year to 726,700 mt, down some 75.8% from the volumes approved in a total of 11 batches last year.

So far this year, only five companies in Hebei area have received the go-ahead with approved volumes of some 5,000 mt. Three of the five are located in the Ziya Industrial Park with approved volumes below 2,000 mt.

Approved copper scrap imports as of Monday came in at 238,700 mt in the third quarter.
