China’s Jun bauxite imports up 8% on the year

China imported 7.45 million mt of bauxite in Jun

SHANGHAI, Aug 10 (SMM) – China imported 7.45 million mt of bauxite in June, up 8% from a year ago but down 9.4% from a month ago, China Customs data showed.

Volumes from Guinea accounted for 44.2% of overall imports in June, as the country continued to be China’s top supplier of imported bauxite.

China’s alumina market is likely to face a supply deficit of 361,000 mt in 2020, and the annual average operating rate at alumina plants are expected to stand at 78.03%, said Joyce Li, senior analyst at SMM.
