China's inventory of primary aluminium across eight major markets, including SHFE warrants, shrank 5,000 mt from last Thursday

SHANGHAI, Aug 6 (SMM) – China's inventory of primary aluminium across eight major markets, including SHFE warrants, shrank 5,000 mt from Thursday August 2 to stand at 1.776 million mt as of August 6, SMM data showed.

Fewer arrivals from smelters in Xinjiang accounted for the drop. The decline came after an increase of 1,000 mt recorded on August 2, from Monday July 30.

Details are as follows:

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 752,000 mt

Shanghai – 413,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 237,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 158,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 112,000 mt

Tianjin – 55,000 mt

Linyi, Shandong – 27,000 mt

Chongqing – 27,000 mt

KAP Minerals and Cymat Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Jointly Develop Canadian Scandium-Aluminum Alloy SupplyChain
KAP Minerals and Cymat Technologies, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, are exploring a partnership in Ontario to produce scandium-aluminum master alloys. The collaboration intends to leverage scandium oxide from KAP's Kapuskasing critical minerals project and Cymat's aluminum processing technology to produce alloys for aerospace, national defense, and manufacturing applications. Scandium-aluminum alloys can enhance strength, performance, and weldability while reducing weight. KAP and Cymat plan to establish a domestic supply chain through the proposed joint venture, converting Canada's critical minerals into value-added industrial materials. Flavio Volpe, President of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association, said: "By combining scandium from Northern Ontario with Canadian manufacturing technology, KAP and Cymat are taking an important step toward building the sovereign industrial capabilities our automotive, aerospace, national defense, and advanced manufacturing sectors require." The project aims to concentrate scandium recovery, processing, and master alloy production within Ontario; KAP and Cymat's goal is to demonstrate commercial-grade scandium-aluminum alloy production by the end of 2027.

ClearFlow Metalworks to Build New Secondary Aluminum Casting Plant in Kentucky, US
ClearFlow Metalworks plans to invest $28 million to build an aluminum manufacturing plant in the Shelton Lane Industrial Park in Russellville, Kentucky. The facility will support sustainable manufacturing by processing secondary aluminum and meet the growing demand for aluminum products in the US. The project will be developed in phases. Phase one involves building a secondary aluminum casting plant with an expected annual capacity of approximately 100,000 mt; the plant will process recycled aluminum into billets for extrusion and other downstream manufacturing applications.

Impact's Lake Hope high-purity alumina project pilot plant scheduled to begin installation and commissioning
On November 5, Impact Minerals' Lake Hope high-purity alumina (HPA) project continued to hold a central position in its development plan. The June 2025 pre-feasibility study (PFS) showed that, at a 10% discount rate, the project's net present value (NPV) was A$1.165 billion ($815.6 million), with a post-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 47%, and the financial projections were based on approximately 33 years of raw material supply. Impact Minerals has confirmed that the material assumptions supporting the PFS production targets and related financial projections remain unchanged. The company's next major operational milestone is the installation and commissioning of the Lake Hope pilot plant, which is planned to begin on November 30, 2026; this timing coincides with the shareholder vote on the proposed company name change.
