The Tangshan government initiated a 22-hour emergency measure on Thursday in response to heavy air pollution in the region

SHANGHAI, Jun 28 (SMM) – The Tangshan government in Hebei province initiated an emergency measure from 12:00 on Thursday June 28 to 10:00 Friday June 29 in response to heavy air pollution in the region.

During the 22-hour period, all sintering machines and shaft furnaces at steel mills in Lubei, Kaiping, Guzhi, Fengrun, Fengnan districts, Luan, Luannan and Leting counties will be suspended.

All coke makers, casting plants, steel shovel producers, cement grinding plants and plants with independent lime kilns in those areas will also suspend production. Lime kilns at steel mills will cut production by half.

Major power plants in Tangshan are required to comply with the standard for discharging particulate matter, and to reduce emissions of other pollutants to below 60% of the acceptable level.

These measures come after similar ones in Tangshan during May 26-June 3, June 5-7, June 20-21, and from June 25 in Fengrun district
