China's iron ore output down 5% in May

China produced 67.25 million mt of run-of-mine (ROM) iron ore in May, down 5% year on year, according to NBS

SHANGHAI, Jun 20 (SMM) – China produced 67.25 million mt of run-of-mine (ROM) iron ore in May, down 5% year on year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday June 20.

This brought the country's ROM output in the first five months to 321.26 million mt, down 0.1% on the year.

Meanwhile, May output of pig iron stood at 66.89 million mt, up 4% year on year. Production in the first five months amounted to 305.59 million mt, down 0.6% year on year.

Production of ferroalloy in May rose 1.1% year on year to 2.5 million mt. This brought output from January to May to 12.93 million mt, up 7.9% on the year.
