Tangshan extends production cut at steel mills to June 3 on pollution woes

SHANGHAI, Jun 1 (SMM) – The government of Tangshan in Hebei province announced on May 31 that they will. extend the termination date of the heavily-polluted weather alert from midnight on May 31 to midnight on June 3, SMM learned. Required production cuts at steel mills will last till June 3.

On May 25, the Tangshan government issued the emergency measures to fight the upcoming heavy pollution. From May 26-31, full suspension is required for sintering machines and shaft furnaces at steel mills in Lubei, Kaiping, Guzhi, Fengrun, Fengnan districts and Luan County, and production cuts by half is required in the remaining areas across the city. Such restrictions are not required of those with dry desulphurisation facilities.

Coking duration at all coke plants in the city is required to be extended to 36 hours.

Delivery vehicles are banned from entering or leaving the port and the plants of steel, coke, power, cement, chemical and coal mining sectors.
