High-grade nickel pig iron (NPI) plants in Shandong province were required to cut one-third of their productions from Friday May 25 in response to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

SHANGHAI, May 25 (SMM) – High-grade nickel pig iron (NPI) plants in Shandong province were required to cut one-third of their productions from Friday May 25 in response to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be held in Qingdao on June 9, SMM learned.

The cut is expected to last for 15 days and some 2,000 mt in nickel content will be affected. This accounts for 5% of China's high-grade NPI monthly output.

An estimated 7,000 mt of low-grade NPI output will be affected due to the SCO summit. That equals to 30% of the current tradable volume of low-grade NPI in the market.
