Silicon plants in Yunnan province face operation restrictions after recent rainfall in the region proved insufficient to generate hydropower, SMM learned

SHANGHAI, May 24 (SMM) – Silicon plants in Yunnan province face operation restrictions after recent rainfall in the region proved insufficient to generate hydropower, SMM learned.

A silicon plant in Lincang city operated its blast furnace at 80% capacity, SMM surveyed. As of May 24 in the Dehong area, silicon plants that resumed production from maintenance faced a shortage of electricity. Silicon plants in Nujiang also chose to operate at low capacities due to short supplies of power, SMM learned.

It was reported that there will be rainfall around May 30 in Linyi and Nujiang. The traditional rainy season for Yunnan starts in June and extends to December.
