Production of aluminium products in Shandong province is likely to be minimally affected by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao

SHANGHAI, May 23 (SMM) – Production of aluminium products in Shandong province is likely to be minimally affected by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao, SMM learned.

Sources across primary and secondary aluminium producers, aluminium rod plants, or downstream die-casting plants all expected limited impact from the summit. A secondary aluminium producer told SMM that the potential capacity cut of 30% is likely to have little impact on overall production as plants were not operating at full capacity.

Another source at an alumina plant said that the plant has not received notice of any cuts.

The summit is likely to impose some pressure on freight. Security and overloading regulations are set to be intensified, a primary aluminium trader in Qingdao told SMM. Sources at secondary aluminium producers and die-casting plants also told SMM that their clients intended to stockpile in advance of the stricter regulations and security.
