Prices of chemical-grade silicon remained weak on Wednesday May 9 with prices of some specifications dipping, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, May 9 (SMM) – Prices of chemical-grade silicon remained weak on Wednesday May 9 with prices of some specifications dipping, SMM learned. The #421 silicon at Huangpu port was trading at 14,600-14,800 yuan/mt.

Most organosilicon plants delayed their procurement to later this month due to ample inventories and maintenance works while only a few purchased small amounts earlier this month.

Downstream consumers purchased cautiously given their bearish sentiment as the rainy season approaches.

SMM expects chemical-grade silicon to stay weak in the short term.
