SHANGHAI, Apr 3 (SMM) – A cargo of 100 mt of aluminium scrap imported from the US for processing use was rejected at the Yangshan customs in Shanghai this morning as it was required to pay the 25% import tariff, SMM learned.

US aluminium scrap imports for further processing use are theoretically exempted from China’s newly imposed tariffs, market sources told SMM. This case, however, cast doubt over how the new regulation would be carried out.

No other secondary aluminium companies have encountered such situation so far, SMM learned.
