Operating rates at silicon producers in Yunnan province dropped to only 25% in January due to power shortage and high energy prices, according to SMM research.

SHANGHAI, Feb 13 (SMM) – Operating rates at silicon producers in Yunnan province dropped to only 25% in January due to power shortages and high energy prices, SMM research showed. This is down by 19 percentage points from levels seen in December 2017.

Only several plants in the main producing areas including Dehong, Baoshan and Nujiang are still producing, SMM learned. These plants mainly produce chemical-grade silicon.
