Report: China’s lithium carbonate import up 41% in 2017

China imported 30,655 mt of lithium carbonate in 2017, up 41% year on year, according to a report by research house Shenzhen Gaogong Industry Research (GGII).

China imported 30,655 mt of lithium carbonate in 2017, up 41% year on year, according to a report by research house Shenzhen Gaogong Industry Research (GGII).

Import prices averaged $11,814/mt for the year, up 37% from levels seen in 2016.

Chile and Argentina were top suppliers, shipping 18,604 mt and 8,689 mt, respectively. Other suppliers include South Korea and Japan.

China exported 1,423 mt of lithium carbonate last year, up 3% from the previous year.
