SHANGHAI, Feb 6 (SMM) – China produced 2.99 million mt of aluminium in January, down 1.7% year on year, according to SMM data.

The volume, also down by 16,000 mt from December 2017, translated to an annual output of 35.15 million mt.

The lower production was caused by the shutdown at Aluminium Corp of China (Chalco)’s operations in Guizhou province due to power supply tightness. The company has also done capacity replacement with Guizhou Huaren Aluminium.

In addition, newly added capacities in Guangxi, Guizhou, and Inner Mongolia provinces were running at a lower rate due to low aluminium prices. The pace of restarts at Chongqing Tiantai and Guangxi Xinfa were also negatively affected by the prices.
