No steel mills in Hebei province has received official notice that they are required to extend the winter cuts till May 15, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, Feb 1 (SMM) – No steel mills in Hebei province has received official notice that they are required to extend the winter cuts till May 15, SMM learned.

Media reports indicated that the local government was mulling over extending the production cuts for another two months beyond the original end date of March 15 in a bid to improve air quality.

While no official document has been released, we do not rule out the possibility as poor air quality in the region lingers.
