China’s installed capacity of motive battery for new-energy vehicles has reached 6.98 gigawatt hours (GWh) in November, up 20% from the same month last year, according to data released by Shenzhen Gaogong Industry Research (GGII).
The capacity was also up 138% from October, the GGII database showed.
In addition, the top 10 motive battery companies saw their installed capacity amount to 5.36 GWh, or 77% of the total installed capacity.
GGII noted four features of China’s motive battery market during the January-November period:
1. The biggest segment of the motive battery market is for electric passenger vehicles.
2. Ternary battery has seen its installed capacity increase rapidly.
3. Lithium-ion phosphate batteries are mainly used for bigger electric passenger vehicles like buses or coaches.
4. Motive battery companies have significantly different installed capacities. The market is consolidating with several majors.
