SHANGHAI, Dec 19 (SMM)-Hongyue North Copper’s refined copper plant has been officially commissioned but some believed it will have limited impact on market fundamentals.

Located in Huludao, Liaoning province, the plant has a capacity of 150,000 mt of refined copper. Following 22 months of construction and 650 million yuan of investment, the first piece of copper cathode weighing 66kg was produced last week.

Jing Chuan, vp of Zhongda Futures, said Hongyue’s new plant would have limited impact on refined copper supply. Smelting capacity over the past few years has over expanded due to sufficient copper concentrate supply.
