Chemical-grade silicon prices are unlikely to go down much further as operation costs have increased due to dry season.

SHANGHAI, Dec 15 (SMM)-Chemical-grade silicon prices are unlikely to go down much further as operation costs have increased due to dry season.

The number of operating plants in South China is steady compared with late November. Plants in Nujiang, Baoshan and Dehong in Yunnan province, as well as Leshan, Aba, Yaan in Sichuan province are operating normally due to having secured long-term contracts.

On the demand side, some organosilicon plants are still not operating at full capacity due to staggered production plans in the winter. Demand is seen to remain weak in the near term.
