Philippines’s expected nickel ore export will reach 1.52 million wet tons in November, dropping dramatically compared with October, according to SMM research.

SHANGHAI, Dec.11 (SMM)-Philippines’s expected nickel ore export will reach 1.52 million wet tons in November, dropping dramatically compared with October, according to SMM research. Those exported nickel ore is translated to 13,200 tons for metal content, dropping 65% on monthly basis.

Concerning ore grade, Philippine exports 10 vessels’ high-grade nickel ore, 14 vessels’ medium-grade nickel ore and 4 vessels’ low-grade nickel ore in November. Distinct export drop of Philippines’s nickel ore is mainly caused by slumping shipment due to wet season in Surigao, whereas shipment in Palawan and Zambales fails to gain a clear rise.

There are 12 vessels’ nickel ore exported from Indonesia to China in November, which consists of 10 vessels’ high-grade nickel ore and 2 vessels’ low-grade nickel ore. Total volume is about 660,000 wet tones, dropping 33% on monthly basis, which is translated to 6,310 tons metal content. Those mines with newly-approved export quota has started export gradually but domestic plants are bearish at nickel price from end of October to early November, with low willingness of purchase. Hence, Indonesia’s nickel export drops rather than rises.

The expected medium and high-grade nickel ore exported by Indonesia will increase 3 vessels to 13 vessels in December, which is better than November, as per SMM research. However, this figure is still lower than Indonesia’s maximum export capacity so domestic plants keep bearish at nickel price, with low purchasing willingness.
