China’s silicon metal output reaches 2.19 million tons during first 11 months of 2017. SMM predicts China’s total annual output of silicon metal is 2.38 million tons, up 5.8% on yearly basis.

SHANGHAI, Dec.8 (SMM)-China’s silicon metal output reaches 2.19 million tons during first 11 months of 2017, said Yang Xiaoting, chief silicon analyst of SMM at the Die-casting Industry Chain Supply-demand Communication Summit organized by SMM on Dec.8. SMM predicts China’s total annual output of silicon metal is 2.38 million tons, up 5.8% on yearly basis.

China’s export of silicon metal from January to September is 613,100 tons, up 79,500 tons by 14.9%. August gains the most increase of 34% on yearly basis during recent 3 years to 87,400 tons export.

Concerning future price tendency, she says September 2017 saw a wave of surging price of domestic silicon. All specifications set new high during past nine years and got close to historic high point set in July, 2009. It is estimated that non-oxygen 553# silicon at Huangpu Port will move between 11,500-12,500 yuan per ton from Dec 2017 to Mar 2018. The price will move to 11,000-13,500 yuan per ton in 2018.

In the spot market, high-priced long-term contracted cargoes arrived at ports in the early stage with high cargo receiving costs. Domestic traders showed a strong willingness to prop up prices, driving continuous hikes in chromite quotations. However, downstream demand remained sluggish. Coupled with persistently high shipments and a notable inventory build-up, selling pressure intensified, slowing the upward momentum of spot chromite prices.
