Shanghai base metals all closed with gains in the overnight trading amid surging energy prices, and their counterparts on LME performed similarly on Wednesday.

Shanghai nonferrous metals closed mixed. Risk aversion sentiment was still high in light of sanctions from US and European counties on Russia. As of Friday January 7, the copper inventory across major Chinese markets dropped 11,200 mt from Monday January 3 to 83,700 mt.

Shanghai base metals mostly trended lower on Thursday morning after the Fed released hawkish signals. Meanwhile, their counterparts on LME performed similarly.

SMM understood that Codelco plans to set the benchmark premium for long-term contracts of copper cathode to China in 2022 at $105/mt, much higher than the $88/mt in 2021. Many domestic traders have received offers, but none have accepted them.
