“We are operating at 100% in all our units of production,” the company says in emailed response to questions.

“We are operating at 100% in all our units of production,” the company says in emailed response to questions.

Workers started an indefinite strike midnight Tuesday as attempts to reach an agreement with the company failed, Ricardo Juarez, secretary general of Peru’s Mining Federation, says by phone.

Contradicting the company’s assertion, Juarez says output was halted.

NOTE: Talks between the company and workers at Ilo, Cuajone and Toquepala units ended late Monday without an accord.

NOTE: Unions say the company hasn’t paid 30% of 2016 profit-sharing obligations and isn’t re-hiring workers fired in the last strike.

Separately, the Federation is meeting with unions across the country and considering to call a general strike in January.

NOTE: Federation says a dialog commission set up by the Labor Ministry after the last strike in July isn’t advancing, calling the situation "a joke towards workers".
