CHALCO to Cut Alumina Output by 0.6 – 0.7 Million Tons in Winter

CHALCO’s alumina capacity will decrease by over 2 million tons this winter and cut its output by 0.6 – 0.7 million tons.

SHANGHAI, Nov 15 (SMM) – According to Bloomberg, Lu Dongliang, vice general manager of Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO), said in an interview in Fuzhou that CHALCO’s alumina capacity will decrease by over 2 million tons this winter and cut its output by 0.6 – 0.7 million tons. CHALCO’s aluminum capacity will not have a sharp increase in the following years as planned.

SHFE aluminum futures remained generally stable. In the central China market, buying sentiment among downstream processing enterprises weakened compared with yesterday, with a stronger wait-and-see atmosphere and a preference for purchasing at lower premiums. However, major suppliers held prices firm, and although quotes showed a slight downward trend, they remained within a relatively high premium range. Ultimately, actual transaction prices in the central China market were around a discount of 40-80 yuan/mt against the SHFE aluminum October contract.
