According to SMM independent research data, output of refined nickel sample in October 2017 is 12,050 tonnes, rising 1.3% by 150 tonnes.

SHANGHAI, Nov.7 (SMM)-According to SMM independent research data, output of refined nickel sample in October 2017 is 12,050 tonnes, rising 1.3% by 150 tonnes. Monthly sample capacity is 21,134 tonnes, occupying 95.4% of domestic capacity. Hence the domestic capacity is converted as 12,631 tonnes. The total domestic output from January to October is 129,000 tonnes, dropping 13.4% on yearly basis.

In September one large-scale refined nickel plant did overhaul for its production line and resumed in October. So the output in October rises by 800 tonnes to 11,300 tonnes.

One refined nickel plant in Xinjiang suspended its smelting furnaces in September due to green policies. It is learned that the furnaces are still in suspension. Despite normal operation of refined nickel production line, the output drops by 500 tonnes to 450 tonnes due to suspension of smelting furnaces. One refined nickel plant in South China continues to shrink its output in October, with its core shifted to nickel sulfate.

One large-scale refined nickel plant is bearish at future nickel price. In November its estimated output will probably increase to 12,100 tonnes. Other plants have no great change in output. The estimated domestic refined nickel output in November is about 13,400 tonnes.

[SMM Nickel Flash] Based on nickel ore prices from 25 days ago, smelter profits for high-grade NPI remained high this week. However, from the current raw material side, ore prices from both the Philippines and Indonesia increased, while auxiliary material prices saw a slight pullback, leading to an increase in the cash cost of producing high-grade NPI from spot ore. At the same time, high-grade NPI prices experienced some pullback, making it difficult for smelter profits to see sustained improvement.
