Chilwee Group shut down one battery manufacturer in Zhejiang with daily capacity of 20,000 pcs due to cost pressure, SMM survey finds.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 22 (SMM) - Chilwee Group shut down one battery manufacturer in Zhejiang with daily capacity of 20,000 pcs due to cost pressure, SMM survey finds.

The plant consumes about 100 tonnes of lead per day.

The battery producer is facing increasing cost from higher lead prices, and may cut capacity or lower operating rates in the near future.

Lead Prices Surge, Battery Makers Hesitant to Buy High-Cost Supplies

[Secondary Lead Market Dynamics] Lead prices rose significantly. Downstream battery producers showed poor acceptance of high-priced supplies, and secondary refined lead offered at a premium of 25 yuan/mt against the SMM #1 lead average price delivered to plant was difficult to sell. Most downstream enterprises indicated that they were not short of supplies at present, with low purchase willingness.
