Will Winter Cuts in “2+26” Cities Hit China Copper Output in Q4 2017? SMM Reports

SHANGHAI, Sept. 15 (SMM) – Market players are now very concerned with whether winter cuts in “2+26” cities, namely Beijing, Tianjin and surrounding 26 cities, will take a big toll on copper production.

SMM sees little impact on China’s total copper output in Q4.

Among the 28 cities, there is just one copper smelter in each of Hebei’s Baoding, Shandong’s Dezhou and Shandong’s Liaocheng. Altogether, these three smelters have a total blister copper capacity of 400,000 tonnes per annum and copper cathode capacity of 800,000 tonnes per annum.

Xiangguang Copper, located in Yanggu, Liaocheng, adopts double-flash technology, which causes limited pollution.

Total monthly output at the other two smelters, which are secondary copper smelters, is less than 10,000 tonnes.

To sum up, output controls in winter heating season will not prevent total copper output nationwide from rising in Q4.
