SHANGHAI, Sept. 12 (SMM) – More new aluminum capacities in China are waiting to come on stream for the rest of the year to partly fill in supply gap triggered by supply-side reform, SMM expects.
SMM sees additional 1-1.5 million tonnes of new capacity to be commissioned before the end of 2017.
Thanks to recovering downstream consumption, aluminum supply in China is shifting from surplus toward balance. De-stocking is likely to happen in the future.
However, release of new capacity in Q1 next year might drive stocks back into growth territory, SMM warned.
