Cuba begun to shut down its nickel industry as Hurricane Irma approached, state-run television said on Thursday.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 11 (SMM) – Cuba begun to shut down its nickel industry as Hurricane Irma approached, state-run television said on Thursday.

Cuba plans to produce 54,500 tonnes of nickel and cobalt sulfides in 2017.

Cuba, supplying 2 per cent of world’s nickel, is not major nickel producing country, so the suspension will not affect nickel market much, SMM foresees.
