Why Zinc Price Spread Expand Sharply between Tianjin and Shanghai? SMM Reports

The price gap on zinc between Tianjin and Shanghai expanded to 350-400 yuan per tonne at one point, exceeding the 200-300 yuan per tonne auto freight charge between the two regions.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 8 (SMM) - The price gap on zinc between Tianjin and Shanghai expanded to 350-400 yuan per tonne at one point, exceeding the 200-300 yuan per tonne auto freight charge between the two regions.

Spot premiums in Tianjin surged due to tight supply and steady consumption. This explains the big rise in the price spread, SMM said.

LME Base Metals Inventories (2017-9-7)

The price spread between the two regions will remain at current levels in the near term, SMM predicts.

Zinc Spot Trading Slackens in Shanghai, SMM Reports

Goods transfer from Shangahi to Tianjin is not likely considering downstream consumption in Tianjin and zinc supply tightness in Shanghai. Meanwhile, zinc supply in Tianjin is also limited now.
