Foreign media reported Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday he agreed with open-pit mining ban due to environmental harm it causes. 

SHANGHAI, Sept. 5 (SMM) – Foreign media reported Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday he agreed with open-pit mining ban due to environmental harm it causes. 

Indonesia to Add New Companies on Nickel Ore Export List Soon 

Time would be given to mining firms to look for other ways for minerals extraction, he added. He had asked new Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu to look into the eventual closure of open-pit mines.
