SHANGHAI, Sept. 4 (SMM) – China imported 287,000 tonnes of copper scrap in July, off 15.45 per cent on a monthly basis, according to China Customs.
SMM learns that the Ministry of Environmental Protection started one-month crackdowns on environmental damages from processing imported scraps from July 1, and approximately 60 per cent of producers were found illegal. Scrap import licenses of 67 scrap processing enterprises in Guangdong’s Qingyuan were confiscated.
China’s copper scrap imports will likely drop further after its “category 7” scrap metals import prohibition.
