LME aluminum will rise further to USD 2,130-2,155/mt today after hitting highest since February 2013, due to positive KDJ and bullishness in other base metals.

SHANGHAI, Sep. 4 (SMM) –LME aluminum will rise further to USD 2,130-2,155/mt today after hitting highest since February 2013, due to positive KDJ and bullishness in other base metals. Ferrous metals performed well due to fire at three steel plants. Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei began environmental crackdowns. As such, SHFE 1711 aluminum still has room to rise and will range RMB 16,700-17,000/mt today.

In east China’s spot aluminum market, spot discounts are expected at RMB 260-220/mt over SHFE 1709 aluminum contract.

Central China Aluminum Market Sluggish, Prices Fall Amid Weak Demand and Low Selling Interest
Today, the transaction atmosphere in the central China market remained sluggish. The decline in SHFE aluminum futures persisted, and downstream processing enterprises showed significant fear of falling prices, with only those not under long-term contracts engaging predominantly in just-in-time procurement. As aluminum prices fell excessively, suppliers' willingness to sell also remained low, and their willingness to hold prices firm was weak. Ultimately, the actual transaction price range in the central China market centered around a premium of –30 to –50 yuan/mt against the SHFE aluminum July contract.

Alcoa to Acquire South32's Aluminum Assets for $4.1B, Strengthening Upstream Position
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Alcoa has agreed to acquire most of South32’s bauxite, alumina, and aluminum assets for an upfront consideration of US$4.1 billion in cash and stock, with potential contingent payments of up to US$750 million linked to future alumina and aluminum prices. The transaction includes South32’s interests in Worsley Alumina (Australia), Hillside Aluminium (South Africa), and bauxite, alumina, and aluminum operations in Brazil, but excludes the idled Mozal smelter in Mozambique. Alcoa expects approximately US$900 million in synergies and believes the acquisition will strengthen its position as a leading pure-play upstream aluminum producer. The deal is expected to close in H1 2027. Under the agreement Alcoa will acquire South32's interests in: 1. Worsley Alumina (86%) 2. Hillside Aluminium (100%) 3. MRN Bauxite Mine (33%) 4. Brazil Alumina Refinery (36%) 5. Brazil Aluminium Smelter (40%)
